Ethical/Social Issues w/ Genetic Engineering
There are alot of issues/problems with genetic engineering. Genetic engineering has alot of health and enviromental hazards(Listed below).
Health Hazards:
-No Long-Term Safety Testing : Genetic engineering uses material from organisms that have never been part of the human food supply to change the nature of the food we eat. No one knows if these foods are safe without long-term testing.
-Toxins : Genetic engineering can cause unexpected mutations in an organism, which can create new and higher levels of toxins in foods.
-Allergic Reactions : Genetic engineering can also produce unforeseen and unknown allergens in foods.
Enviromental Hazards :
-Gene Pollution Cannot Be Cleaned Up : When genetically engineered organisms/bacteria/viruses are released into the environment it is impossible to contain them. Negative effects are not changable.
-Ecology may be damaged : The change of a genetically engineered organism on the food chain may damage the ecology. The new organism may be successful with wild animals/reletives, causing changes in the environment.
-Increased use of Herbicides : Scientists estimate that plants that are genetically engineered to be herbicide-resistant will greatly increase the amount of herbicide use.

Applications/Uses of Genetic Engineering
Genetic enginering has many uses:
Medicine: Genetic engineering is able to treat many sickness and conditions with the human body which used to be really harmful. With genetic engineering, we are able to help treat cancer, alzheimer's disease, heart disease, diabetes, AIDS and arthritis.
Agriculture: 60% of the food we eat are some way connected to genetic engineering.
Industry: The ability of bacteria to produce chemicals can be used in other areas like the cheese factories.

The History of Genetic Engineering
Ancient History of Genetic Engineering:
It took alot of steps to finally make genetic engineering work.
(Can't find any real history since the sites don't have what I'm looking for).

What is Genetic Engineering?
What is Genetic Engineering?
Genetic engineering's basically a technique that sciencetists use to change the DNA of living organisms. It is a controlled manipulation of the genes in an organism with the point of trying to make that organism better in some way.
